Putting My Creativity to the Test: Dot Journaling

Writer's picture: Chloe DoughertyChloe Dougherty

A.K.A Bullet Journaling (because I still don't know the difference)

My goal in quarantine is to focus on the little things that make me happy (and things that will help pass the time) and that includes getting down and dirty with a dot journal, brush pens, colored pencils, Paper Mate pens, a ruler, and any other tools I need to execute my artistic ideas.

I've had a Pinterest account for "Journaling & Thoughts" for quite some time. I would save pins of crafty pages people would make with such beautiful lettering I was confident I could never do. Partly because I was never taught cursive in school. But, I always knew I would enjoy bullet journaling for the aesthetically pleasing results I saw on Pinterest. Although my results are certainly not a match for the lettering experts I find on Pinterest, I am proud of my journey thus far.

The idea to start this project in quarantine was actually inspired by none other than...Tik Tok. I came across videos of people showing off their bullet journals and found myself down the rabbit hole learning how to write every letter in cursive using a brush pen. My determination and boredom sparked a new fascination and there I found myself deep in Tik Tok learning about the best brush pens and journals to use. Today, I am 6 pages into the journal and can credit all of my design ideas to Pinterest. Thank you, Pinterest lettering experts.
