Sorority Recruitment - What to Wear Edition

Get out your platform sandals, put on your cutest rompers, pack your purses, its recruitment time gals. Let’s get this straight. Its a tough process. I would NEVER want to do it again. BUT its a process that works. My next three articles will be explaining my experience during recruitment at my university, from what I wore to why I cried but why I am still happy I did it.

Next year what I wore will so be last year. I get it. Trends change. Trend means current style. What I wore will not be current.

But with the lack of inspiration I found from stalking so many girls' instagram accounts the summer before my freshman fall, I figured it was worth mentioning. Maybe some of my outfits were ahead of their time, I doubt it though. I tend to follow the crowd when it comes to style.

Before I rushed I expected to find everyone’s insta worthy, Pinterest inspired, outfits that said “love me, give me a bid.” I know now though that you won’t find this because the week is busy, every girl is miserable, and the last thing on my mind at least was getting a picture worth posting. I was waking up too early and by the end of the night I was DOA.

I did manage to remember to take pictures every morning, but excuse the terrible quality I took them rushing out of the door at least 5 minutes behind schedule. I had to get one though to send in the CHLOE RUSH 2k19 group chat with my mom, aunt, sister, and cousin.

The following are my outfits for each round of recruitment:

(Keep in mind the process varies between schools, but this is what I found would help me fit in with the crowd but also highlighted my own brand)

Round 1:

(Black & White Skirt-Zara, Black shoes-Nasty Gal)

(White Skort-Copper Closet, Orange Sandals-Target)

Round 2:

(Romper-Copper Closet, Shoes-not pictured because I started with old tan wedges that broke on my way to my first house and then changed into tan sandals from Target-my life saver, was not happy)

Round 3-My FAV outfit:

(Polka dot dress-Zara, White shoes-Nasty Gal, earrings-because if you are wearing earrings in your fav color you bought specifically for a dress you have to shout them out-Target)

Preferentials:

(Romper-unknown, gold heels-amazon)

Bid Day:

(Through all the excitement, I forgot to take a picture but found the romper still on the website and a picture of it in a model that wore it better anyways. BTW I also brought shorts because as soon as I got to the house we changed into shirts with our new letters! So be PREPARED!!)

(Romper-Francesca’s, Tan Sandals-Target)

Many of these pieces were bought from online boutiques, like Nasty Gal, or Copper Closet and Zara. I also looked at Princess Polly and TJ Maxx. I can’t take credit for coming up with all of these on my own. My best friend and her sister (who went through recruitment 3 years before us) were my go-to source to ask “will this work?” I also found that my university’s Panhellenic council was so good they had their own Pinterest account with boards for each round of recruitment. It helped A TON, buttttt as many of you probably know from planning homecoming, birthday parties, or getting inspired through Pinterest it’s hard to find where all of these beautiful pins come from. So in my time of need, I was finding cute rompers that would be appropriate for round 2 on Pinterest but the perfect romper was no where to be found on Princess Polly or Copper Closet. I still was left feeling confused, helpless, and afraid I would show up in heels when everyone else was wearing sneakers or in black when we were supposed to wear white. The horror. The horror.

I can’t speak for recruitment every where, I only experienced it at one school, but at this one school I can say that in these outfits I felt good about myself and that is what matters most. Its sad, but its true: the girls rushing you will first judge based on your appearance, but if you feel confident about what you’re wearing, and it is 100% representative the girl you are, you will land in the sorority best for you. I did.
